The Institute of Integrated Electrical Engineers of the Philippines – Southern Cavite Chapter (IIEE-SCC) hosted the 1st Region IV Engineering Summit, with the theme “Harnessing Engineering Professions Towards Green Environment” last July 30-31, 2010 at Development Academy of the Philippines (DAP) in Tagaytay. The said event was attended by different engineering practitioners (Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Electronics, Plumbing, Sanitary, etc.) within the region as well as exhibitors, sponsors, and engineering students from various colleges and universities in Region IV, including the LPU-C. National officers and the members of the Board of different Engineering Professions-Professional Regulation Commission were also there to address some matters.
During the event, seminars on several topics and a poster-making contest were conducted. The On-the-Spot Poster-Making Contest aims to stimulate the creative and artistic skills of the youth in expressing their appreciation of engineering/technology through visual form.
Together with Engr. Saturnino R. Perlas and Engr. Rhia V. Espanto, and sponsored by the Lyceum of the Philippines Engineering Students’ Society (LPUESS) officers Powell Lewis M. Agustin and Charles Isaac C. Yabis, the students from LPU-C took home the victory. The group of Jerome Lugatiman, Noemi Nepomuceno and Reynold Ricaforte was hailed as the champion. The group of Jonald Gobaton, Sarvy Llaguno and Neil Joseph Lagumbay was the 1st runner-up. The group of Rayan Portinto, Vanny Rose Martin and Asean Camposagrado bagged the 3rd place.
Bearing out the excellence of Lyceum of the Philippines-Cavite (LPU-C), three of its faculty members, namely, Engr. Rhia Espanto, Engr. Irin Malajito, and Engr. Saturnino R. Perlas, were each granted a graduate scholarship under the Commission on Higher Education Faculty Development Program-II (CHED FDP-II) to pursue a Master of Engineering at the Adamson University which will be effective on the 1st semester of the academic year 2010-2011.
Though the assistance and recommendation of the Vice President of Administration Maria Tess Pilapil and the Executive Dean Ramon Maniago, the three LPU-C Engineering faculty members would savor scholarship for their graduate studies. The scholarship entitles each of the three engineers a full tuition and subsidized fees, book allowance of P15,000, monthly stipend of P15,000, thesis/dissertation assistance of up to P60,000, start-up research assistance of P200,00 and transportation assistance.
The CHED envisions the quality of education as largely reliant on the qualifications and competencies of the faculty. The FDP-II seeks to upgrade the academic qualifications of tertiary faculty to masters and doctorate degree levels. It is expected that through this program, improved faculty qualifications and teaching methods will contribute directly to better student learning which would translate into higher passing rates in professional licensure examinations and greater productivity of the graduates.
With this continuing search for brilliance, LPU-C will continue to provide quality education and offer superior advantage to students.
