LPU Foreign Service Students Pass Civil Service Exams

Students and Alumni from Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila - College of International Relations (CIR) were among the esteemed list of passers of the April 2010 Civil Service Professional Eligibility Examinations.

Current students of the AB Foreign Service program include Rhea Vanessa Armoreda, Elaine De Guzman, Raissa Dela Rama, Maria Romina Fernandez, Jamie Jacob, Iccalyn Jimenez, Khristine Alva Lacsina, Marielle Ruby Mercado, Ricardo Benjamin Osorio, Graciel Vivienne Ramiro, Svetlani Rozzi Santiago, Karlo Ray Tanodra, Abigail Timog, Veronica Tiongson and Jea Rose Villarante.

Among the roll of alumni passers were, Mari Christianne Mesina, Dionell Chris Batoon, Clarisse Stephanie Ann Batoleña, Krisha Marey Del Rosario, Josa Belen Dela Cruz, Ma. Aveline Menor, Jayce Alexis Yu Shomura and Honey Nikki Villafuerte.

The aim of the Civil Service Examination is to establish a register of eligible individuals from which appointment to the first and second level positions in the civil service shall be made.

LPU Reaps Awards in MAFBEX

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM) students won several awards in the recently concluded Manila Food and Beverage Expo 2010 held at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

For the Live Pasta Cooking Category, The team composed of Maverick Rasing, Jefferson Condeno and Jamaica Somongsong won First Runner-up, while the group of Francia Babiera, Arthur Martinez, Melissa Pancipane and Grace Ilustrimo took home 3rd Place for the Cake Decoration Category. A third winning group, composed of Emerson Manzano and Christel Anne Collado, were finalists in the Best Cheesecake Category.

LPU President receives award as LPU Ranks 3rd Best Performing School in the Philippines in the November 2009 Nurse Licensure Examination

LPU President Atty. Roberto P. Laurel was invited by the Professional Regulation Commission Board of Nursing to receive the award for Lyceum of the Philippines - College of Nursing as Top 3 Best Performing School(under Category B with 30 – 99 examinees) garnering an average of 91.43% during the Nurse Licensure Examination given in November 2009.

The awarding was done during the Oathtaking Ceremony held at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City on March 8, 2010. He was joined on stage by VPAA Dr. Conrado E. Iñigo, Jr. and Leonora Reyes as the certificate was awarded by PRC Commissioner Ruth Padilla, BON Chair Carmencita Abaquin and the six (6) esteemed members of the Board of Nursing.

LPU Triumphs in Grand Barista Cup

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management (CITHM) students won two of the top 5 awards in the 3rd Grand Barista Cup National Championships held at the SM Mall of Asia Activity Center. LPU’s Team, composed of Rolando Mirondo Jr. and Celine Grace Lofamia, took home the Championship and the 3rd Runner-up awards, respectively.

The winners bested a number of participants, including representatives from Coffee Beanery and Shangri-La Hotel.

As champion, Rolando Mirondo Jr. was also given the privilege of representing the country in the Asian Barista Championship, which will be held on April 2010 in Singapore.

LPU Bags CMMA Award for Best Student Public Service Ad

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila won the Best Student Public Service Print Ad award in the recently concluded 31st Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA) at San Carlos Seminary in Makati City. This is the fourth straight year that LPU has claimed the award from the CMMA.

AB Mass Communications - Advertising major John Jason Cuneta bagged this year’s Best Student Public Service Print Ad, the same recognition received by Lady Karen Principe in 2006, Jonah Brocka in 2007 and Jusef Karlo Servañez and Edelrita Rizo in 2008. Mr. Dan Villa served as coach for all the awardees.

LPU CIHM Student Wins “Hired”

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) College of International Hospitality Management (CIHM) recently solidified its status as the country’s leading HRM and Tourism School when one of its students, Christian Lorilla, won in the reality game show “Hired”.

Ms. Lorilla, a BS Hotel and Restaurant Management student majoring in Cruise Line Management, bested other contestants -- including tenured industry practitioners -- guaranteeing her employment in the world-renowned Dusit Thani Hotel Manila and a Scholarship from the prestigeous Cornell University.

The reality game show “Hired”, hosted by Paolo Abrera, features applicants for a given job position that compete with each other in a game of wit, skill and creativity.

Upon graduation, Ms. Lorilla will be trained for the position of Front Desk Manager for Dusit Thani Hotel Manila.

LPU Manila Rakes In Awards at WOFEX 2009

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) brought home a number of awards in the recently concluded Barista Competition at the World Food Expo (WOFEX) 2009. The Expo was held at the World Trade Center and participated in by a number of HRM institutions, including delegates from LPU College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management.

LPU’s Celine Grace Lofamia was crowned the over-all Champion and given the Best in Cappuccino Award. Other winners from LPU were Rolando Mirondo, Jr. and Alkhmer Miko Simangan, who won Over-all 1st Runner-up and Best in Espresso, respectively.

The Barista coaches were Mr. Henry Magalona and Mr. Ernest Joggler Martin.

In the preliminary eliminations held two weeks before the finals, three of the eight contestants who made it were from LPU.

LPU Hosts PSITE-NCR December MSW

The College of Computer Studies hosted the Philippines Society of Information Technology Educators Foundation, Inc. (PSITE) National Capital Region(NCR) December Monthly Seminar-Workshop (MSW) on Spirituality in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) last December 11, 2009, Friday from 3:00 to 7:30p.m. at the Board Room. Dinner and a simple Christmas party followed at the Le Café. The event was participated by 61 participants from various schools and universities.

PSITE is an organization of institutions, IT program heads, faculty members and IT graduate students. It aims to promote quality Information Technology education in the country.

BSCS Gets PACUCOA Candidate Status

The Board of Directors of Philippine Association of College and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) has granted LPU’s Bachelor of Science in Computer Science (BSCS) Program Candidate Status for two (2) years, starting June 2009 until June 2011.

CCS Faculty Scholars Passed TESDA’S AM/TM Certification Exam

In line with the goal of the College to be an accredited TESDA training center for ICT Program,a TESDA assessor certification program on AM/TM for CCS Faculty members was sponsored by the University based on the specialization in PC Operations and Computer Hardware Servicing/Troubleshooting. To meet this goal and in preparation for the said exam, the 15 faculty scholars of the College of Computer Studies underwent a five day AM/TM seminar and workshop training program last October 27-31, 2008 at LPU-Manila. After which TESDA Manila assessors Ms. Ilfleda Ramos and Ms. Krisel Enriquez came to LPU to facilitate the exam. The exam took place at LPU-Boardroom last November 6, 2008 (first batch) and July 15, 2009 (second batch).

100% of the CCS AM/TM scholars successfully passed the exam and were granted their TESDA Certification as AM/TM assessors. Congratulations to the new TESDA assessors: Lorenzo Adriano, Maria Corazon Adriano, Kimberly Brown, Arlene Caballero, Edward Cablao, Samuel Chua, Elizalde Duran, Devy Galang, Lourdes Halasan, Orlando Lingo, Dolores Montesines, Helen Natividad, Liandro Antonio Tabora, August Thio-Ac and Virginia Panti.

LPU Signs Partnership WITH FastTrack Solutions, INC.

Lyceum of the Philippines University recently signed a memorandum of agreement with FastTrack Solutions, Inc. last April 1, 2009, leading provider of business software, SAP. FastTrack Solutions, Inc. is a software products and consultancy services company that provides world class Business Solutions to the Enterprise and SMB markets

SAP (Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing) is a business software comprising enterprise resource planning and related applications such as supply chain management, customer relationship management, product life-cycle management, and supplier relationship management. For more than 30 years, SAP has been the leader in providing business solutions.

The initiative is in line with the school’s continuing efforts to respond to the challenges of information technology.

The College of Computer Studies will offer SAP Business One Basic and SAP Business One Advance and Introduction to SDK (Software Development Kit) as an elective program for the CCS students beginning Academic Year 2009-2010.

SAP Business One provides an intuitive user interface and standard Microsoft Windows environment, helping users become productive quickly by significantly reducing the learning curve. SAP Business One enables businesses to reduce implementation time and quickly realize the benefits of a modern solution.

Certificate of Completion to all students who passed the course will be awarded, which will enable them to proceed to SAP Business One Certification.

As part of the program, FastTrack Solutions Inc. will train a number of Lyceum teachers starting April 20, 2009.

BSIT Gets PACUCOA Candidate Status
