
Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila recently hosted a delegation from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Australia Philippines, Incorporated (CCIAP) for their first Trade and Cultural Mission to the Philippines.
The visit, organized by CCIAP President Connie da Cunha and Dr. Oscar Torralba aimed to foster ties between LPU and CCIAP. Also, the delegation sought to raise awareness about the cooperation between the two organizations, as well as their respective countries. As part of the mutually beneficial relationship, LPU and CCIAP will be undertaking Educational and Cultural Exchanges, enhancing faculty, research and employment for both parties.
The CCIAP delegation also extended an invitation to LPU Officials to visit Australia and survey prospects in enhancing the relationship even further.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila, together with the Embassies of the different European Union Member States, their respective cultural institutes and the Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines, recently hosted the opening ceremonies of the 3rd Annual Lingo de Lingua Europa. The yearly festivities aim to promote European Language and Culture through the participation and cooperation of different academic institutions.
Giving the welcome remarks at the opening ceremonies was LPU President Atty. Roberto P. Laurel. Shortly after followed a brief backgrounder on the annual festivities delivered by Linguistic Attache for the Embassy of France Ms. Emelie Flambeaux and a Festival message given by the Head of Contracts and Finance Section of the Delegation of the European Union, Mr. Holger Rommen. LPU Arts and Cultural Affairs Director Robbie Hayden delivered the message of thanks to all the participating institutions and cultural offices.
Different activities followed the opening ceremonies at LPU, such as the Cooking Demonstration performed by Guest Pastry Chef from Peninsula Manila Chef Sebastian Cocquery-Beraud in one of the Kitchen Laboratories of the University. Language classes were also conducted by six European nations’ cultural representatives: Czech (Monika Kazdova, Embassy of the Czech Republic), German (Nina Agcaoili, Goethe Institut), Italian (Elisabetta Bertotti & Cristina Moricca of the Philippine Italian Association), French (Helene Gauthier of Alliance Française), Protuguese (Patrick Capili of ADMU Department of Modern Languages) and Spanish (Veronica Gonzales of Instituto Cervantes Manila).
European-themed competitions such as the Iron Chef Competition and the Go Navigate Contest were also held throughout the day. Concocting a European dish using a set of ingredients provided to them, the team composed of Julienne Ellazar, Janine May Prado and Ellaine Vicencio from Colegio de San Juan de Letran took home first place in the Iron Chef Competition. The team of Jorge Philippe Arjona, Jeremiah Attento and Reina Marie Calvo from LPU College of International Relations bested seven other teams by using satellite technology to guide their way towards different European points of interest in the Go Navigate Contest.
The event in LPU was the first day of a week-long affair taking place in 3 other partner institutions and culminating in Instituto Cervantes Manila.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila Officials, through its Center for Language Education and Proficiency (CLEP), recently took part in an Educational Mission to visit several universities in Seoul, Republic of Korea.
The week-long visit to Seoul aimed to foster partnership and cooperation between LPU and a number of Korean Educational Institutions. Among the schools visited were Kyungin Women’s College, Baewha Women’s University, Seoul Hyundai Technical College, Endow Korea Technical College and Suwon Women’s College.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between LPU and Kyungin Women’s College was also signed during their visit last June 7, wherein students from the College would be sent to LPU to undergo Language Proficiency Programs under CLEP. Dr. Conrado Inigo Jr., Vice President for Academic Affairs, represented LPU, while signing for Kyungin Women’s College were its President Joon-Surh Park and its Academic Affairs Director Heong Keon Kim. Witnesses for LPU were University Registrar Ms. Jennifer Tucpi, Communication & Public Affairs Director Ms. Sandra Recto, Student Affairs Dean Mr. Lizandro Ferrer and CLEP Director Mr. Alfred Diamante.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila will be hosting this year's Lingo de Lingua Europa Opening Ceremonies on July 27, 2010. The week-long festival will feature Foreign Language Classes (German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, French and Czech), Cuisine Demonstrations and Various Competitions.
Organized by the European Commission, European Embassies and their respective Cultural Centers through the different University Partners, this year's Lingo de Lingua Europa Festival will be the third consecutive annual celebration. The different institutions will be actively participating in the promotion of European Culture and Language to Filipino Students throughout the whole festival.
Other schools hosting the other days will be De La Salle - College of Saint Benilde, Miriam College and Ateneo de Manila University. The culminating activity and awarding ceremonies will be held at the Instituto Cervantes on July 31.

Lyceum of the Philippines University President Atty. Roberto P. Laurel was conferred the Communication Excellence in Organizations or CEO EXCEL Award by the Philippine Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) during the recent awards night held at the Bayanihan Hall of the Unilab Compound in Mandaluyong City.
The CEO EXCEL award is given annually by IABC Philippines to top-level company executives and heads of organizations for their skillful use of communication strategies and tools to achieve their respective organizational and business development goals. The Awards are intended to raise public awareness of the importance of effective communication in business management and organizational growth.
Other CEOs who were similarly honored were ABS-CBN Corporation President Charo Santos-Concio, ABS-CBN Foundation Managing Director Regina Lopez, BPI Family Savings Bank President Alfonso Salcedo Jr., Century Properties Chair Jose E. B. Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) President, Atty. Roberto P. Laurel was awarded the 2010 Gawad Parangal Patnubay for Academe by the Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines (COHREP) during the recently concluded COHREP Annual Convention held at the Manila Polo Club.
The distinction was given in recognition of the invaluable contribution, dedication and commitment to the promotion and development of hospitality education in the Philippines.
In addition, LPU was likewise cited for government and private agency accomplishments in Accreditation, Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEAAP), Institutional Quality Assurance through Monitoring and Evaluation (IQuAME) and Autonomous Status.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with PTT Philippines Foundation, Inc. (PTTPFI) granting scholarships to deserving students under the LPU College of International Relations’ Foreign Service Program. LPU President Atty. Roberto P. Laurel and PTTPFI Chairman Siripong Phoungpaka signed the MOA at the PTTPFI Office in Makati last Jan. 22, with Ambassador Reynaldo Arcilla, Dean of the LPU College of International Relations and PTTPFI’s Chawalitanon Wisarn as witnesses.
The signing of the MOA established a scholarship grant worth PHP 120,000 to be given to two (2) deserving students (PHP 60,000 each) covering the students’ tuition and miscellaneous fees for eight (8) semesters. The scholars will be chosen by a screening committee selected and approved by LPU and PTTPFI. The scholarships will be granted to deserving students beginning AY 2010-2011 for so long as the Requirements in the Implementing Rules are met by the recipients.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila and Batangas Campuses recently received a number of awards from the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) during its 20th General Assembly held at the Manila Diamond Hotel last December 2009.
Among the awards given to LPU Manila were: The Institution with the highest number of programs with Candidate Status, The First Level 3 Reaccredited Hotel and Restaurant Management Program in the National Capital Region and The First Level 3 Reaccredited Hotel and Restaurant Management Program in the Country.
LPU Batangas, on the other hand, received the First Level 3 Reaccredited Nursing Program in Region IV.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila has recently been deputized by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) under the Expanded Tertiary Education Equivalency and Accreditation Program (ETEEAP). The said program assesses knowledge, skills and prior learning obtained by an individual through nonformal and informal education experiences.
LPU Manila Programs deputized by CHEd under ETEEAP include Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Bachelor of Science in International Hospitality Management. LPU Manila is now authorized to provide assessment, equivalency, competency-based enrichment and accreditation for pertinent work-based knowledge, skills, attitude and values, and for learning acquired by individuals through formal, non-formal and informal means, and to confer the appropriate degrees in the aforementioned programs to deserving professionals.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) in Intramuros, Manila was recently granted Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED). The esteemed status was granted to LPU in recognition of its accomplishments, adherence to quality assurance and commitment to social responsibility and accountability as a higher education institution.
With the grant of autonomy, a number of benefits are bestowed upon LPU, such as exemption from the issuance of Special Order for their graduates, freedom from regular monitoring from CHED and priority in the grant of subsidies and other financial incentives and/or assistance from CHED whenever funds are available.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Manila and Batangas campuses displayed an exemplary performance in the recent Customs Broker Licensure Examinations Administered by the Professional Regulation Commission by posting a total of four topnotchers. LPU Manila students Ma. Shiela Oblefias, Cristina Demiar and Warlyn Rose Perez ranked 4th, 8th and 10th respectively. Alicia Areglado of LPU Batangas placed 9th overall.
LPU Manila and Batangas Campuses are ranked Number 1 and Number 2, respectively, for the category of schools with 41-99 examinees. LPU Manila displayed a 59% passing percentage, while LPU Batangas posted a rate of 44%. Both campuses surpassed the overall national passing percentage of 34%.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) recently signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with MICROS-Fidelio Software (Phils.), Inc. and Data Science Technology Corporation (DSTC) at the Dusit Thani Hotel Manila. The agreement will provide an information technology service called Technology Integration Program for Schools, which focuses on the use of Micros Opera software in various programs of the College of International Tourism and Hospitality Management.
The partnership signals LPU’s ever growing strength and passion in providing only the best experiential learning to its over 10,000 students in the HRM program. With the integration of the latest Micros Opera hotel software in their curriculum, students of the HRM program are trained in the principles and practice of using the world’s leading property management system, making them highly marketable after graduation and real assets to management right from the start of their employment.
The MOA will cover four campuses of LPU, specifically those located in Manila, Batangas, Laguna and Cavite. This was signed by Atty. Roberto P. Laurel (President of LPU’s Manila and Cavite Campuses), Mr. Peter P. Laurel (President of LPU’s Batangas and Laguna Campuses), Mr. Kevin Hartigan-Go (President of DSTC) and Mr. Robert Gabitan (Country Manager of MICROS-Fidelio).
Present at the signing were officers of LPU, MICROS-Fidelio and DSTC. Faculty members of the different campuses, as well as technical staff, will be trained regarding the program beginning this semester for Batangas and Laguna, and next semester for Manila and Cavite.

Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) recently honored its outstanding alumni, students, faculty and staff during its 57th Foundation Week Celebration. Chief Justice Reynato S. Puno, who was guest of honor at the awards convocation, extolled the legacy of LPU’s founder, Dr. Jose P. Laurel.
Loyal faculty and staff, exemplary student-scholars and a select group of alumni were recognized for their achievements. Among those given tribute were Augusto “Gus” Abelgas for Mass Media, Atty. Irineo Aguirre and Atty. Nestor Kalaw for Government Service, Atty. Rodelio Dascil for Legal Education, Mr. Jerry Navarette for Industry, and Mr. Oliver Pandile for Humanities.
Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) takes a step forward in its drive for academic excellence with its recent grant of Level 3 Reaccredited Status by the Philippine Association of College and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA).
The Board of Directors of PACUCOA has granted LPU’s Business Administration, Liberal Arts and Hotel and Restaurant Management Programs Level 3 Reaccredited Status for five years, starting 2009 until 2014. Moreover, the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program of the University’s College of International Hospitality Management is the country’s first HRM Program to be granted such status by PACUCOA.
The accreditation by PACUCOA gives formal recognition to an educational institution by attesting that it maintains above-average standards in its educational operations, in terms of its aids and objectives. Such a distinction solidifies LPU’s place as one of the country’s leading Universities.
Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) College of Business Administration (CBA) won First Place in the recently concluded FedEx-JAPI International Challenge. The CBA Team, composed of Marketing Management Students Danica Magat and Elyza Roxas, earned the grand prize of P50,000 from the highly prestigious competition sponsored by Federal Express (FedEx) and Junior Achievement of the Philippines, Inc. (JAPI).
The winning tandem bested five other challengers with their exportable wine product, PINOWINE, to emerge victorious. The two were also part of the winning contingent that won the championship in the prestigious De La Salle Marketing Approach to National Development (DeMAND) competition.
